Red Mountain: The color of the soil found on this knoll (11,065') east of Mt. Nimbus caused Indians to favor it for use in applying war-paint. Often mountains are named for the color we associate with it. The many features in the Rockies that reflect the iron rust imbedded in the rocks gives us ample opportunities. The Colorado River (Colorado means red in Spanish) is only one that comes to mind.#
